We have a group of 6 guys who meet weekly to rate whiskies. Attached are the results of this week's bourbon tasting. It is interesting to note the different opinions about ORVW and PVWFR who some believe are the same whiskey. I do not.

Joe,
What was it that the other prefered about the Old Rip 15 over the Pappy 15? I would have to agree with them going by my last bottle of pappy 15, which I found too woody. Was that their reasoning or did they have another reason?

Mike,
I really can't speak for the others, but for myself, The ORVW seemed much sweeter and had much more depth. I did not note an overly woody component in either. I don't know if it's a bottle to bottle kind of thing but I do know that I much prefer the ORVW to the Pappy.

The last Pappy 15 that I drank was actually from the bottle at the Bourbon's Bistro. Now keep in mind that they sell Pappy 15 as fast as they can get it in, it is a very popular bourbon with their customers. Kerry, the bartender told me he agreed with my woodyness in the latest batch of Pappy 15, so it is probably a batch flavor profile quirk. I personally hope they get back to the less woody, more caramel, honey and pecan sweetness that I always loved in the Old Rip 15. It is a more complex and interesting taste.
