Which Bourbons are good to invest in?

Unread postby gluce » Mon Jan 02, 2006 11:18 am

:?: What Bourbons would you suggest to buy and hold on too. Like the van winkle 15 yr or the pappy vw 15 yr. ?

hirsch 21 yr rye? Give me some ideas from the guys who know which ones have potential. i enjoy drinking it too but I also want a nice collection of valuable bourbons to have. Maybe they will someday pay for my kids college education.

Thank for the help.

Later,

George

Anything that is no longer made but still can be found, such as ORVW-15-107, WTRR-101, ER-101, etc.

Mark is probably the best resource on which bourbons qualify as collectible/investment-quality, but I'd say as a general rule to look for anything rare, unique, minimally distributed, and/or no longer made. Tasting good doesn't hurt either. Given the choice, go for a label with dates (preferably "vintage" dates like on Hirsch).

Keep in mind that (eBay oddball transactions aside) there is no proven market or return on investments in spirits. The generic answer to the FAQ "how much is xxx worth?" is generally "whatever you can find someone to pay for it."

moments after reading this thread i ran into a bottle of 101 proof russel's reserve at a local liquor store, a real dingy place that isnt frequented too much.. had 1 bottle all dusty in the back of a shelf, so i picked it up..

guess i wont drink it as its rare; had never seen one like this before.. only seen the one with the paper wrap around that doesnt say wild turkey but real small on the side...
