Maple flavored Knob Creek, say it isn't so

Flavored bourbons are bad enough, but to dilute a well established name like Knob Creek? It shouldn't happen. Me thinks flavored bourbons are a good way to get women and young men to think and drink bourbon, it's all about marketing. Look at how big flavored rum has become, it's easy to see why the bourbon guys want a piece of that action.

I would bet cash money that Maple flavored Knob Creek contains slightly off-spec bourbon covered up with maple syrup, Yuck!

I'm with you Birdo, the ones I've sampled (free nips) went down the drain. Honey, maple, red hots (cinnamon?), cherry, apple ..... What's next, bacon ..... hmmmm?

Cheers,
RG

Seems like most flavored "bourbons" are coming out of Jim Beam lately. I wish they would not call it a bourbon and call it flavored whiskey instead. Follow the law.

Evan Williams does it also.

While driving by Evergreen Liquors on Shelbyville Road here in Louisville, I noticed their electronic sign advertising Wild Turkey Spice, so I gues they are on this band wagon too.

Flavored bourbons reminds me of Southern Comfort and Captain Morgan, they have their place, but I don't care for candied liquor.

as if the distillers needed to sell more whiskey......there's already shortages of lots of stuff.

I bought it because I happened upon it on the shelf. I assumed it would be subtle.

Not.

It is ok if you like that sort of thing. I think I'll use mine for cooking or mixed drinks!

I guess they have their place. I'm way overdone with honey whiskies and only enjoyed one shot AT MOST on those 0 degree nights outside, but I can't drink them anymore. They're a gimmick for sure.

a gimmick, yeah, but it works.

WT Honey was my gateway booze. Then it was the EW Honey. Then EW 1783, Then......

I don't like the honey bourbons anymore, but it did get me into this

I think it is sad that some of the great names are going this route. Some try to be even more subtle about the flavoring by calling it "Bourbon finished in Port Wine Barrels" and other such stuff.
On the other hand, it is a good way to rid the warehouse of some nasty bourbon and make a buck off the uninformed.

I may be in the minority but I like some of the honey whiskeys. Wild Turkey American Honey is good, but the Evan Williams offering is probably best. Especially for the money. I stick them in the freezer and have a shot every now and then. I've not tried any of the other flavors like maple, but they may be good for mixing and such. I do agree, however, that they should not be labeled as bourbon. Adding the honey makes them legally not bourbon but whiskey.

Not to put too fine a point on it but it seems to me that flavored Bourbon (honey, cherry, blackberry, spice, port, whatever) is still Bourbon. I encourage the major houses to give the people what they want, use up that lower level warehouse stuff that isn't aging well anyway, then pour some of the profits back into what we want.

My other complaint is they are a bit overpriced. And in regard to the maple flavored Knob, while I haven't tried it, maple is by far my favorite flavor to add to whiskey

They are overpriced for what they are.
