They are short on stock so they are going to stretch it. Not a big deal. I like 86 proof beam black fine as an example. Jack cut their proof to 80 and it did not hurt their business, they are still big number 1 in American whiskey.

That said, it is sad to see. Better buy some 90 proof quick, or it will be gone. I must point out that I just got a bottle of Larceny which is similar to makers and is 92 proof, as well as a big Wild Turkey at a heavy hitter 101.

Most makers gets mixed, so 90% of the customers will never even notice the drop from 90 to 84.

This does make other good wheaters look like a better value. WL Weller SR, Fitz, and my new Larceny all come to mind.

LATE Breaking news: I bought a 1.75 liter of 90 proof on the spur of the moment decision. I plan to hang on to it for a while and then enjoy it slowly.

I got the email from Makers on Saturday; as did all the ambassadors. So a guy comes into the store yesterday morning and bought two cases of 750mls. Said he also got the email and is stocking up.

After a nano second of thought I will not be stocking up. Too many others out there who are working to earn my dollars.

The 'brain-trust' at Jim Beam Brands has been hard at work (again).

Just like the Knob Creek "drought", will the proof lowering precipitate a run on Maker's Mark and clear the shelves? Thus in turn spike restocking orders. Will they raise prices at the same time too?

Just heard they are reversing the decision based on feed back from the consumers. Now if only Wild Turkey would listen to the customers about their rye.

If they had listened 101 would still be on the shelves.

Does any one know if they plan to dilute makers 46 as well on top of regular makers mark?

They changed their mind shortly after the original announcement.
