How do YOU drink Booker's?

Unread postby Vital » Fri Jan 18, 2013 1:32 am

At 64% I'd assume most add water or ice. Exactly HOW MUCH water/ice do you add? What's the ratio?

First bottle I tired about a year ago was a waste of $60, water, barrel and 8 years. Way too flavorless and alcohol-ish for my taste.
I now decided to give it another shot as reviews mention all the things I like - spice, leather, wood but I added a cube of ice and all of the flavors are there but now in intensity i'd like them to be. If no ice - way to alcohol-ish. What's YOUR perfect ratio?

I actually just had this for the first time at a restaurant a couple nights ago.. I had it neat and found the flavor to be very similar to Knob Creek, just a bit stronger. A nice pour, but not for the money.

I definitely reccomend adding a good 2-3 teaspoons of water to a glass of Bookers. On its own the alcohol really dominates and sort of obscures all the flavors and smells. With water and a little time it begins to open up, giving you more of the spicy oak and wood. It's a really nice bourbon, but you just gotta be patient with it ;)

Booker's is my favorite cooking bourbon.
Why?
Because it has SO MUCH BOURBON FLAVOR!

I've often wondered why people say "Ugh! That whiskey tastes awful. I'll use it for cooking."
What the H are they thinking?
In cooking, the alcohol burns off, leaving ONLY the flavor. If you don't like the flavor, why on earth would you use that bourbon for cooking?

Booker's has TONS of flavor.
Great flavor.
In fact, if you add enough water to bring the proof down to an honest 100-proof, you have Knob Creek (more or less).
I ALWAYS use Booker's when bourbon is called for in a recipe.
I also use it whenever VANILLA is called for. In the same amount (i.e., 1/2 teaspoon vanilla = 1/2 teaspoon Booker's)

About 50/50 with water over ice.

I prefer Knob Creek Single Barrel at 120 proof........ cut with some Evan Williams 86 proof at a ratio of 40% KC to 60% EW, which yields a bourbon of about 100 proof. But Booker's is a very good bourbon....... with a bit of water to tame its proof.
