Fruity bourbons?

Unread postby Vital » Tue Dec 18, 2012 3:48 pm

Now ofcourse bourbon is not cognac but I'm sure there's still plenty of fruits to go around in bourbon world.
I absolutly love Eagle Rare 10 when I feel the need for fruity aroma and taste but haven't really tired much else that would be as fruit-rich in taste and nose.
According to revies I've read Four Roses single barrell should also fit the critiria but I haven't had any luck finding it in my local stores.

What else would you concider rich in fruits?

Vital I share your affection for Eagle Rare, I especially liked the now discontinued 10 year 101 version. Having said that I find Four Roses to have more of a floral impression rather than the dark fruits of Eagle Rare. More to my liking in that style is Old Grand Dad.

Some Four Roses OESK has provided dark fruit, especially in older, barrel proof bottles.

I like Four Roses Single Barrel for a great taste of bourbon with a fruity and complex profile. Four Roses Yellow is great also, and easier to drink bourbon with a nice fruity profile.

Had a bottle of Easgle Rare, and was not happy with it.

Any Grand Dad is good Vital. Currently it's BIB because that's what I have, 86 if that's all I could get, 114 is the pick of the bunch.

thanx!

There's not much choice of GD here in NY.
I know I had the cheapest version (don't even remember what it was) some time ago at a chinese restaurant (yes, chinese restaurant haha) but don't remember any fruits out of it. It had pretty good mellow spices thou.

Ill see if i can find a more "top shelve" GD. Or even Four Roses single barrel which is still mia everywhere near me :?

I find it hard to believe you can't find old grand-dad in NY state, it's probably the 4th or 5th most popular american whiskey brand.

Is Old Grand Dad 100 proof Blended different to 114 and 84 versions? I think Bonded is a gimmick now.

Also Is the bottle light on old grand dad?

Just got 4 roses yellow. Bottle weighs like a piece of furniture. I like a light bottle! Maybe the old fours roses had a light bottle? I've never had 4 roses but it looks fruity!

What do you mean by a light bottle? Light, as in weight? I'm not sure what a bottle's weight would have to do with anything.

I believe the barrels that make up the 114 blend have a little more age on them.

I am not sure but I don't think Bonded is a gimmick really, from what I saw the rickhouses full of barrels had a lock on the door and a sheet with info on when government officials had visited it.

I googled wiki says:

To be labeled as "Bottled-in-Bond" or "Bonded," the liquor must be the product of one distillation season and one distiller at one distillery. It must have been aged in a federally bonded warehouse under U.S. government supervision for at least four years and bottled at 100 (U.S.) proof (50% alcohol by volume). The bottled product's label must identify the distillery where it was distilled and, if different, where it was bottled.

so they can't mix 4 year old with 6 year old bourbon and call it BiB.
