I also find the Turkey 101 to be more noticeably hot than Grand Dad 100. Then again, any whisky that is 50% alcohol will certainly have some heat.

Still deciding on OGD 86 or 100. Buffalobills reviews suggest 86 is more balanced.

Given a choice I'd take the 86 proof of OGD. The batching seems to produce a balanced palate. It's still very much Gran-dad in taste but in the best way. The bonded tends to be, by definition, more "singular" and some I've had are fairly sharp for neat drinking. They make a great bourbon and Coke though. Generally I go for higher proof all things being equal but in this particular case, the 86 may offer a better option.

Hmm, words to ponder Gary, guess I'll have to get a bottle of 86 and make a comparison.

I feel that way too about VOB 100 and VOB 86. However, Old Forester 100 is always better than Forester 86! I don't know why, but it is!

I think black maple hill small batch has a nice spice to it. Just wish I could find more of the older offerings

My limited experience says Small Roses Small or Single, maybe bulliet but if you go bulliet kick out the extra and get four roses small batch if you got the money, if you want cheap maybe old-grand dad would be good depending on your taste.
