Old Fitz 1849

Unread postby Brewer » Thu May 05, 2005 9:01 am

I had a couple of pours of Old Fitz 1849 last night and enjoyed it a lot. I'll have to do it again, and take some notes to post in the "Reviews" section along with Mike's review. Any other fans of 1849 out there?

This is a great bourbon. I usually take a bottle with me to parties and such. Great price, great bourbon. It don't get any better than that.

I agree, except for the ORVW bourbons the 1849 is the most interesting wheater bourbon I know. The finish leaves a bit to be desired (Chuck says this in his book I believe) but overall it is a fine drink of whiskey. Good for sipping when something well-flavored but not too demanding is needed. Good I can see, too, by the bar-b-que, on the patio, straight from the bottle.. (just kidding).

I thought I read somewhere that this brand is in short supply but I did see some in Bardstown and grabbed one. I understand this to be a Bernheim wheater.

I'm waiting on my stash to arrive. It should be in NYC any day now. I like it. It ain't VW 12 year, but it is worth a try.

I was at the Bourbon's Bistro the other night and noticed they have taken the age statement off the bottle of 1849. This means they probably plan on making it a younger product so if you see bottles with the 8yo age statement, you should probably buy them.
