I like the Sazerac Rye because it has a fruity peach with cinnimon and carmel flavor. I don't know if I would call it candy, but peach melba is pretty close. I would say if you are looking for these qualities, to check the reviews and see what the reviewer thought of the bourbon or rye and if sweet fruit or caramel seem to play a big part of the review, then you might want to check out the brand.

I'll go ahead and toss Parker's Heritage into the ring.

It's too bad Marvin Franz doesn't post here. He has excellent tasting abilities, and could certainly make some good suggestions.

I guess I'm going to have to try the OGDBIB, its about $16 here. Didn't like Basil Hayden though, and I'm worried that it will have that peppery rye dominate flavor that I don't care for. Maybe a 375 instead.

I will say that in the six months I've been reading this site, I've learned so much from all of you guys. Lots of times the reviews are right on. Thanks for all the help! :cheers:

Basil Hayden is a perfect example of how you can take a good whiskey and ruin it by diluting and filtering the product too much. Take bonded Old Grand dad and reduce the proof to 80 and it should be close to Basil Hayden, but it is not. The filtering has removed many of the desirable flavors found in Old Grand Dad and turned Basil Hayden into a tasteless product with little redeeming qualities.

You are quite welcome, Bourbon Dave! It is very unusual for a whiskey review to go into a second page, or garner as many viewers. I don't post many reviews, but I am impassioned of the whiskies that make the cut.

What are you thoughts on OWA 107 and AAA 10yr? I pick up some of these candy-like qualities in both of these, however, they are both very different, in proof and flavor.

Well Dave,

Todays Old Weller Antique is a far cry from the original Stitzel-Weller distilled whiskey. It tastes OK, but nothing to rave about.

Ancient Ancient Age 10 Year Old used to be my life's blood back when I used to drink a bottle a day. It's very good even if a bit tannic in the finish.

Almost all Bourbons have some candy qualities somewhere. That's why Bourbon is so popular.

I'll agree on the AAA finish. I still love it though. Very easy to drink, a nice sweetness, just wish the proof were a little higher. I've only had the current OWA, while I liked it, I don't just go back to it again and again like some of the other bourbons. Thanks again for the comments.
