Nice review, Mike. I too find that the right amount of oak really adds to the flavor of bourbon. I don't even mind oak to the point of somewhat dry.

Mike,
Thank you. I don't like as much wood tannins as some people I know but I do like some wood. For me when it gets bitter and tannic that is too much. I find this in a lot of bourbons and ryes over 15 years old.

So, Wild Turkey is now allowing enthusiasts to pick their own barrel are they? That's great news, or news to me if it's been an ongoing program. I agree with both Mikes!

Linn,
I don't know if they advertise this feature, but the Bourbon Society decided to pick a barrel from Wild Turkey and JD Knaebel helped arrange it. While there, Williw Wallace really liked a barrel we had rejected and decided to purchase it for himself. Somehow the barrel became near empty between the picking and the time to dump for the single barrel. Wild Turkey offered to let him pick another so several of us went back to Wild Turkey and picked another barrel and this is it. When you come to Louisville next, I am sure I will have some left for you to sample - both the Bourbon Society and Willie Wallace barrels. Willie is also a cigar enthusiast so I will have to get you, him and a couple of other cidar/bourbon enthusiasts together for bourbon and cigars.
