Mike,

I like George Dickel #12 a lot. Beats the hell out of JD for me. I'm not sure if I've seen this bottling before, but if I do, I guess I'll just have to grab 1 or 2. How does this compare to the 12?

It is a bit softer, more subtle, richer, and more complex than the #12. I just did a side by side and that is my opinion. I whipped out all my Tennesse whiskies and here is my rating

(1) George Dickel Barrel Select
(2) Jack Daniel's 1954 Gold Medal
(3) George Dickel #12
(4) Jack Daniel's Single Barrel

I am convinced that the JD Single Barrel I have is not a good example of that whiskey.......it has a tarry finish that does not suit my palate!

Being new at this commenting,I am no new in the whishey making. All whiskies are better 90 proof and above. That leaves little room for any foreign flavor.I at this time, will drink Dickel 90 proof and above. Nothing like a shot of George
right out of the bbl before any water.

I have long since revised my opinion of JD Single Barrel............ I have come to appreciate its subtelty and excellent softness. It is a favorite pour of mine now.
