Old Grand-Dad Bottle

Unread postby Beastmode » Mon Apr 20, 2009 1:28 am

I found an empty one gallon bottle of Old Grand-Dad kentucky straight bourbon whiskey with a wooden cradle swing. It is 100 proof and it was distilled and bottled by the Old Grand Dad distillery company in Frankfort, KY. On the shoulder of the bottle engraved is "Federal Law Forbids Sale or Reuse of this bottle." It says DSP KY 14 and "Bottled in Bond." I was just wondering if this bottle is worth anything and how old it is.

I doubt the bottle is worth very much but you could donate it to the "Getz Museum of American Whiskey" in Bardstown Kentucky. I think they would love to have it and put it on display. You could then always go visit your bottle anytime.

The vast majority of empty bottles are not worth squat. They are neat, but not really worth more than a few $$s. You have to go back into the 1800s to find bottles that start to be worth money and those are also few and far between.

Joe hit it on the head. It would my much cooler to have a bottle that you gave to a museum. Might even have your name on a plaque next to it...

I will give you $5 for it and I will give it to the museum... :bom:

My husband just purchase a 1 gallon Old Grand-Dad bottle in a cast iron pouring cradle. It is exactly how Beastmode describes, however, it is unopened and full except for the small portion that has evaporated. Does anyone have an idea as to the approx. year/s it was produced?
