I'm sure quite a few of you have seen these bottles around... but it was new to me.

A friend gave me this bottle recently. Thought I'd post a photo as I found it pretty weird looking.

I think they used one of these... painted up in the old Star Trek.

It's dated October 1964

That is the Dickel Powderhorn bottle. It was done to commemorate the opening of the distillery.

It was a prop on several original Star Trek episodes as a "Romulan Ale" bottle.

Funny, I just saw one yesterday at a preview for an auction. (It also came as a mini.)

I have one of these Dickel's Powder Horn Bottles unopened. The wooden cork is still in the bottle amd the leather thant surrounds it, although dry rotted in places, is still in reasonable condition. There are many empty bottles of this type for sale on E-Bay some asking in excess of 200 dollars but to date I have spoken to no one who has an unopened bottle. I wrote Dickels and they wrote back indicating it was the first Bourbon made after Prohibition and because of the shape of the bottle hand to be hand poured into the bottle. The bottle does indicate that it was sold in 1964 but was labeled as 24 years old. So far its possible that this may be the only unopened Bottle of Powder Horn Dickels around but would be interested if anyone else anywhere has one. Most of the whiskey is still in the bottle but perhaps about three fingers has dehydrated.

Hi, I too have an unopened powderhorn bottle. I also have an empty one and a mini. Didn't know they were worth anything.
Would the bourbon still be good?
Thanks

just keep them.
they wont get a 1000 bucks on ebay or auction house for full or empty.
i regulatory look online.

the 24y never seen. hang on to it. don't think you get 10,000 for it
you could take a little sip. a few drops. then post your tasting notes.

anyone know how tell the year on bottle from the number?
i simply want to know for a taste reference point.
unsure if older the better or simply how the cask are blended is the key.
i simply did not like 2003-2006 select and 12. any info on that.

outside of USA we only get JD Tennessee whisky in retail. BOO WOO :(
