Is A Quart A True Quart?

Unread postby sahlers61 » Sun Dec 28, 2008 9:26 pm

As a wedding gift in 1985 we were given a bottle of Old Taylor Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that is labeled as a Quart. The unbroken seal over the cap says "Made Spring 1971" and "Bottled Fall 1979" and the number 000294919. Is it a true quart? I'm not a whiskey drinker, hence the unopened bottle, but I've never heard of a quart bottle before. Are quart bottles common?

In your case - yes!

Please post clear, sharp, well captured photos for more detailed information.

Yes a quart is a true quart. It was not until 1980 that the spirits industry had to switch to the metric system so you can still find some true quart bottles out there.

Yes, but wasn't 1980 the cut off date? Meaning, metric bottles were produced in the seventies--along side quart measurements--weren't they?

In the years 1979 1nd 1980, the liquor industry was marking the glass with measurements. Some of this glass may have even went into 1981, but after that it was pretty much metric.
