C. Sandheger- Old Tub?

Unread postby Bas » Tue Sep 30, 2008 1:27 pm

I purchased an old whiskeyjug for which i would like more info on.

It reads
C. Sandheger's Old Tub B.M. S.M.
Nelson Co KY

I would like to know who was C. Sandheger and any more info on this bottle. I googled his name and came up with Chris Sandheger and that was it.
search the Prepro.com database and could not find any additional info.

So who knows-- Please tell me.

Do not want to know what it is worth because i probably paid way to much :D

That appears to be gold leaf, so somebody set out to make something fancy. That wasn't a run-of-the-mill jug. I also wonder how old it could be because of that.

Sandheger is not a name I've come across before in relation to Nelson County distilleries. Old Tub was a Nelson County brand, made by the most famous Nelson County distillers of them all, the Beams.

I also can't say what those initials mean.

You didn't have the kind of trademark protections we have today, to it's possible someone simply appropriated the Old Tub name because it was a well-known name.

Those are some of my thoughts.

Robin Preston came up with following info
http://www.pre-pro.com/midacore/view_ve ... id=CVG7464
and
http://www.pre-pro.com/City/index.htm

So, my guess is ( and please do correct me if i'm wrong) that he was a retailer who bought whole barrels of 'Old Tub' and separatly sold it in smaller jugs like this one. I have to check the time line when Old TUb became 'Jim Beam' .

It depends upon how you want to count the time. Prohibition was repealed on December 5th when the Utah legislature passed the 21st admendment giving the admendment enough states to repeal the 18th admendment. This was about 5 o'clock eastern time. The 6th is the first full day of repeal. I personally go with the 5th as repeal day, after all most celebrations don't start until after 5 o'clock anyway.

I received the info on C. Sandheger. http://www.whiskeyminiatures.nl/WEBSITE/OldTubJug.htm
I also found the website of the original Sandhegers in Germany. http://www.sandhaeger.de/index.html
Why did i not find this info in the first place. The info there is slightly different then what i received by mail.
