Gangster Bourbon

Unread postby bourbonguyjapan » Sat Jan 12, 2008 6:07 pm

I'd like to know more about a bottle I bought called- Gangster Bourbon:
The Original Real Kentucky Bourbon. It has a picture of Jimmy Zotts.
Aged 8 years and 86 proof. The Distillery listed is 5 Families Distillery.

If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it.
My hunch is that it is a private bottling from a big company. However, I'd be lying to say I'm not talking out off my a$$.

Thanks in Advance,

There are a lot of bourbons sold in Japan (and other countries) that are not sold in the United States. They can come from many different sources, from private labels created for a customer (a retail store, a bar, a distributor, even an individual), to special labels created by a distiller, to labels created by a non-distiller producer using bulk whiskey. The thing is, if the brand isn't sold in the USA, and doesn't identify a real distillery (there are, after all, only a handful so it's not hard to keep track) it's probably an undistinguished whiskey in a package someone thought would sell.

I don't think there is any big problem in Japan with counterfeits, but that's a problem in some other parts of Asia, such as China, Thailand, Viet Nam and India. In those places (and others) something labeled "bourbon whiskey" may not even be a product of the United States or even actual whiskey.

I agree it's probably just bulk bourbon put into a pretty bottled and silently marketed to the unsuspecting customer.
coming from you. I will take your answer as the omega of responses,
and put my query to rest. You are right, Japan isn't a big counterfeit country.
SE Asia and Korea though are indeed another story!
Thanks for the response boss.
