Received in trade a bottle of Haller's County Fair BIB

Distilled Spring 1972 and bottled 1978.

Front of the bottle says:

"Bottled by W.A. Haller Company, Linfield, PA"

The back says:

"Distilled by Tom Hardy Distillery Co., Owensboro, KY at DSP-KY-24, Bottled at DSP-PA-12

The color is a deep red amber. No evaporation is evident. A really nice bottle.

Man, Oh Man, Greg! If ima not mistaken, you've got some Charles Wathen Medley distilled Glenmore whiskey in that bottle!!!

HOLY SHIT, DUDE :!: :!: :!:

You need to haul your a$$ and that bottle down to the Angleshare's in Luray, VA for our fall meeting of the Virginia Chapter of Bourbon Enthusiast. Com. We'll take some serious tasting notes for sure.

I'll bring the cigars, OK?

You have some Glenmore distilled bourbon. It should taste very similar to Kentucky Tavern from that era. It is not, however as Linn stated Charles Medley whiskey. The Medley brothers was still independent from Glenmore when this whiskey was made. I am not sure who was distilling at Glenmore in the 1970's. It seems to me that it might have been a Dant, but I could be wrong.

There are many, many samples of this label in the U.D. archives and even a bottle or two. I never sampled from a bottle of County Fair, but I have had Kentucky Tavern from that era. It is a very fruity bourbon with notes of dates and cherries.

Thanks for the feedback. I received this bottle through the generosity of another bourbon enthusiast. I was very pleased to get this bottle. The funny thing is, this bottle and one other were just sitting on a shelf in Delaware. Go figure.

I find it strange that a huge distillery like Publicker would be buying whisky from Glenmore. Publicker ceased operations in the 1980's, IIRC, and still had large supplies of aging whisky. Funny that they ended up selling some whisky to Medley after they sold some labels to him, near the end.

Great looking bottle, Greg. It really is sweet to look at.

I have passed on a Glenmore labeled bottle, I think 80 or 86 proof, from that era. It seemed like bottom shelf juice to me, but now I'm having second thoughts if not just for historical purposes.

Worth getting?

Lear,

Just for the opportunity to try that era bourbon, it would be worth the purchase, of course, depending on the price. I paid around $15 for the Haller's and if it's not good, no harm no foul.

One other note, If you can get Glenmore from that time period, then Charles Medley would have had a hand in distillation.

I just picked a bottle of Kentucky Tavern DSP 24. So... Who was making this at a distillation time of 1963 and bottling 1971?

I am going to drink it no matter what, but just curios...

Em,
The Kentucky Tavern you have is Glenmore Distillery, Owensboro whiskey.
