VINTAGE BOTTLE OLD GRAND DAD INFO

Unread postby prdandkyd » Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:22 am

Is there anything you can tell me about this particular bottle? age etc..

From the pictures you will see:
4/5 of a quart
labels are attached
bottle unopened
picture on bottle is of OGD and not the bust shot.

Note:
on the bottom of the bottle it is dimpled and in the center it looks like it says....

D - I
60-63

Thank you.

You didn't upload the picture, but the original OGD image (the laughing, happy drinking grand dad) began being phased out in the late '50s. I've seen a bust displayed along with the old image in a 1959 ad, and I believe they continued that for the next couple of years. The guess of 1960 to 1963, based on the bottle markings is not always accurate, but looks to be right on the money here. If you buy a bottle of OGD today (86 or 100 proof as appropriate) and then taste them side by side you will immediately understand what so few others here can... which is just how different even everyday bourbon was before the '80s than they are today.

I would love to post the pictures but was unable to.
Since I a new-be on this blog perhaps I was doing it wrong.

Please help.

First you have to have a picture, as a .jpg file. I think max size is 1024x768
Then, after you type in your message, scroll down past the "save draft/preview/submit" boxes and you'll find the option to upload an attachment. Click that and you'll get a chance to Browse to wherever on your computer the file is. Select it and then click the "Add the file" box and you're there. You can put a caption on the picture if you want to.
