Preserving Old Bottles! Any Suggestions Helpful

Unread postby tradingboiler » Mon Mar 12, 2012 4:16 pm

I just got my hands on two bottles of OGD BIB this weekend. One is a 1959 and the other a 1962 bottled version. The older of the two still has the label and is going to be kept for a special occassion. The other has the cork in tact but the tax stamp came off when transporting. I was just curious the best way to preserve both bottles although I was thinking of cracking the bottle with the loose stamp as a celebratory pour this Saturday after a big accrediation exam I'm taking this weekend. Any thoughts or expertise with this question would be great. Thanks all.

The first thing I would recommend is to replace the corks. And then don't lay them on their side.

Store them in a cool, dry place. They will then live a long time.

Thanks gentlemen. I have a couple good solid bottle stoppers to replace the corks and they will both hit the basement to stay cool and dry. Appreciate the words of wisdom.
