anyone had the new (i didn't know this before i bought it!) Anheuser WINTER'S BOURBON CASK ALE?

according to the label, it is 'ale aged on bourbon barrel oak and vanilla bean'

and it's not bad at all. better than most A-Busch products.

not much for 'sweet' brews, but this one is surprisingly balanced. not too pronounced in any direction. worth $6.99 a six-pack.

might get a better feeling tomorrow for it during a game.

maybe it will help me understand the still un-noticed nuances of my new bottle of Old Grand Dad BIB...

Here's some discussion of it from last year... I still have some and honestly, it has gotten better IMO...

Recently I caught wind of a brewery that's getting ready to release a brew that is aged in used Jim Beam barrels... and after that a brew that is aged in Pappy Van Winkle's 20-year old barrels... and I'm very excited to try these...

...with that said...

I was very excited when I saw the Winter Bourbon Cask Ale. After I tried it, I was no longer excited. When pouring a beer there are many others I would first choose. The Winter Bourbon Cask Ale tasted like a can of Busch with some Vanilla added. Save your money...

...take the money you save by not buying the Winter Cask Ale and buy a bottle or two of Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock. Wow is this stuff good... Lately I've been reaching for this instead of my bourbon bottles!!! Best beer I've ever had. If I had to give up Bourbon for beer... This is the one!

I have to agree with you. It was good... but it sure wasn't what I expected.

Wow. I just posted at SB asking about this very topic.
My wife is interested in trying some bourbon ale/beer
and asked me to check 'em out. I found a few that
seem to get praise from someone and figgered I'd share
my list here:

The District Chophouse's Bourbon Stout

Allagash Curieux Bourbon Barrel Aged Tripel
Allagash Odyssey
Allagash Musette

Kentucky Bourbon Ale

Sprecher's Bourbon Barrel Barley Wine
Bourbon Barrel Dopple Bock
Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout
Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale

Weyerbacher Insanity

I'd welcome comments on any of those.

I've had the Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale a few times. It's good... different... but nothing to write home about, IMO.
