Here's a little info I wanted to share with everyone regarding my favorite Irish whiskey company...thanks to Joe!

Cooley Irish Whiskeys join Monsieur Henri family

(Press Release)--Recognized for reviving the tradition and quality of Irish whiskey, Cooley has received the ultimate accolade from the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC), the Outstanding Achievement Trophy. Cooley has followed up this success by winning numerous International Awards for their whiskies, such as the recent Double Gold Medal and “Best of Irish Whiskey” title at the San Francisco Spirits Awards for Connemara; Gold and Silver Medals in the International Wine and Spirits Competition and San Francisco World Spirits Competition for The Tyrconnell; and Silver Medal and ”Best in Category” Award for Kilbeggan, all attesting to the excellence of their whiskeys.

Founded by John Teeling, an Irish entrepreneur with a Harvard degree who resurrected the distillery and brought it back to its glory days, the company has roots that date back to 1757. John’s vision was to revitalize the stagnant Irish whiskey industry through innovation and resurrect century old traditional Irish pure pot still distillation and the technique of drying malting barley over peat fires. This is best seen in Cooley’s development of its portfolio of Single Malt Irish Whiskies, while traditionally most Irish malt whiskey has been used to create blended Irish whiskey. To this day Cooley Distillery is the only independent Irish owned distillery.

David Hynes, Managing Director of Cooley Distillery PLC, says “We are delighted to be in partnership with Monsieur Henri as our exclusive distributor for Kilbeggan, Tyrconnell and Connemara in the United States. With this relationship we have the opportunity to introduce more consumers to the whiskeys that we are so proud of.”

Situated on the Eastern Coast of Ireland, Cooley Distillery uses only the finest grain and barley in its distillation, and sources pure, fresh water from a reservoir in the nearby Cooley Mountains. Kilbeggan is a well-rounded combination of maize grain and malted barley, aged for long years in oak casks, which produces a smooth and easy to drink whiskey.

The Tyrconnell Single Malt Irish Whiskey, a brand steeped in history and heritage, originated from the Andrew A Watt distillery, one of the oldest distilleries in the world, and has been revived by Cooley. . Tyrconnell, which was the flagship brand of the Watt Distillery, was a best seller in the United States before Prohibition and is named after a very successful racehorse. The Watt family, who owned the distillery, entered a horse named “The Tyrconnell” in Ireland’s classic horse race “The National Produce Stakes”. Incredibly their horse won the race at odds of 100 to 1. The Tyrconnell Irish Whiskey was introduced in 1876 as a special label in tribute to that famous win and is to this day seen on the label of The Tyrconnell Single Malt. Tyrconnell Single Malt is approachable with a smooth and delicate taste that makes it perfect to facilitate a progression to Single Malts.

Connemara Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey by Cooley Distillery is in a category of its own with the unique qualities of being an Irish whiskey that is not only a Single Malt but also Peated. By drying malted barley over peat fires, Cooley is renewing one of the most ancient distilling traditions in Ireland. The smoke rising through the malted barley during this drying process confers a distinct peaty flavor and aroma to the whiskey. This unique and authentic Irish whiskey allows you to unearth the authentic character and taste of Ireland.

“Monsieur Henri is pleased to welcome these quality Irish whiskeys into the family,” said Jon Mowry, Vice President and General Manager of Monsieur Henri. “It is incredibly exciting to work with products of this caliber and we look forward to a long relationship with Cooley Distillery.”
