The attached photograph shows a 1-gallon jug identified as Pure Fulton Whiskey and Myers & Company, Covington, KY. I found the jug in my grand parents basement about 30 years ago. I don't know how long it was there. I searched for information concerning Myers & Company but found nothing. Can any historians help me?

Doug,
You have a genuine 19th century whiskey jug. The company, Meyers $ Co. is listed in the 1910 Mida's Financial Index as being BB ($250,000 to $300,000 assets), located in Covington, Kentucky with a distillery at Butler, Pendleton County, Ky., DSP 22, 6th District, Kentucky.

Thanks MIke for the information. That jug must have been in the basement for a long time. I don't know if they used it for any other purpose. It was empty when I got it.

My pleasure, Doug.

You do realize that jugs a re quite collectable. A jug in excellent condition can sell for anywhere from a hundred dollars to several Thousand dollars. I hope ypu keep the jug and pass it down to future generations, but it does have some value.

I plan to keep the jug regardless of value. I wish that I knew more about its history.

I am the "pack rat" in our family. I am the caretaker of many family-related items and documents. I hope to pass them on to my children and granchildren. Hopefully, they will do the same.
