New Classic Cocktails by Gary Regan and M. Haiden Regan. New York: MacMillan, 1997. Contents, Introduction, Bibliography, Index, Illustrated, pp.132.

This is an interesting recipe book. The Regans start by giving a brief history of the cocktail and a chapter explaining a few mechanics of making the fancy drinks and then get right into it. The book is well designed and quite attractive with color photographs of the cocktails.

The book is an attempt to put into print what the Regans think will be the cocktails of today that will be around for the next century or more. They give a brief history of the cocktail and where it came from. They then give the recipe for the drink. They are not all bourbon cocktails, as a matter of fact, most are not. Still it is an interesting addition to the home bar and it is hoped that one day the reader will be able to see if the Regans picked the right cocktail recipes for their book.
