Please indulge me as I brag on myself a little bit.

Volume 7, "Foodways," of the New Encyclopdia of Southern Culture, is now in print and I'm very proud to have written the Bourbon Whiskey entry (page 127).

I'm proud to be associated with the whole enterprise, which is a very nice balance of serious scholarship and fun reading. If you are interested, as I am, in the general subject of Southern foodways, this is a must-have book.

Chuck,
I am sure you did an excellent job on the article. I will look for the volume to add to my library. Is there a quick link to find the book?

Congratulations to you Chuck, and thanks for the 'heads up'.

A cousin of mine (Sam Hilliard) wrote a book a few years back with the title of 'Hog Meat and Hoe Cake' about the food supply in the south 1840 - 1860. The Southern table was far from sparce during these times.

Sam and I discuss 'Southern Culture' over bourbon when the opportunity presents itself. Being a 'Southerner' is like having a congenital disease, you never quite get over it, but it can make you awfully sick at times. We have made up so much shit about ourselves and can get so upset with those who doubt our myths.

Yes, we are born with it, afflicted with it, will die with it, and, I believe, some of us cry over it as we peruse our tragic history.
