Canadian Club 100 proof 6 YO whiskey

I believe this bottling (which was given to me by 'my' liquor store) is from the late 80s or early 90s. It is the first time I remember seeing a 100 proof CC. It still retains its Canandian 'lightness' and reminds me a bit of Irish whisky, in fact if I didn't know better, I would think it is a malt whisky.......until the rye takes a bite toward the back of the mouth.

I venture to say that the 100 proof improves this whiskey quite a lot. The soft sweetness is very nice, with some apple notes that give it a delicate crispness that makes for an excellent sip.

Although I've never looked into it, I wonder if Canada suffered a whiskey glut too in the 80s and 90s? That could account for a richer-tasting blend. Either it contained more flavoring whiskey or was aged longer, or both. Also, with Canadian, since they are able to add up to 9% of damn near anything, including foreign spirits, it's possible some scotch was being sold cheap and made its way into some Canadian whiskey.
