I have seen a new Crown Royal 'Cask 16' whiskey at 'my' liquor store. It sells for about $100 and says that it is finished in a Cognac Cask. Now, I am a great fan of Cognac........while it does not hold a place in my 'spiritual' pantheon equal to Bourbon, I nevertheless think it is just a fantastic spirit.

I found the CR XR to be a first rate whiskey and noted its Cognac-like aromas and taste. Is this new CR offering even more Cognac-like? In your opinion, which I value highly, is it worth the freight?

Mike, thanks, but call me Gary please.:)

This is an excellent whisky: the Cognac finish is quite evident and seemingly takes an orange cast (orange-flavored, not sure why).

It is full-tasting and deviates in a good way from the typical palate of Canadian.

I think it is better than XR - and by happenstance for rather less money.

It costs $100 10 blocks from where I live, so the price you mentioned (which I saw also recently in Louisville at Old Time) is excellent.

Try this, you won't be disappointed.

Well, what is another $100 to a foolish fellow such as myself? Maybe I will steal a bottle whilst nobody is looking.

I had this when they were just doing samplers on the market to look for interest and I enjoyed the 1st half of the glass and then is began to grate on me the seconds half. It almost was overwhelming with the sweetness.

I enjoy good ports, but have not really gotten into cognacs yet… but is had the smoothness of the CR that on occasions I enjoy, but it must be sampled in small glasses in my opinion… there are better ways to Spend $100… the night I tried it, the cost was $7 a glass and after the first bottle, it was going up to $25 at Fatts in Sac, CA

That self-same thing keeps agoing through my pea brain, Joe, and I just keep on walking past that Cask 16.

There is always theft, but every time I steal somthing, I feel bad about it for a couple of hours. I most got caught last week taking a bottle of $22,000 Cognac, but got off cause I claimed I forgot I had put it in my bluejeans.

Also, if Barleycorn is with me, I am afraid he will turn me in if he is pissed at me about something..........although..........he his own self dearly loves to steal.........claims it is in his genes. I tell him when I do it, it is usually in my jeans too, baggy ones work best.
