Okay, I know I've seen this mentioned before, but I couldn't find it, so I'll display my ignorance-

What does the letter designation on the VWFRR bottle mean (e.g. "No. E2511," "No. F0211", etc.)? Is it a batch? The year? The warehouse?

Both batch AND age, Dave. Julian's '13yo' rye was, indeed, 13 when he started bottling it (actually, as you know, he bottled some of what he claims was the same stuff as the 12yo Old Time rye), which was the "A" series. He tanked it at 19 years old, which is when he bottled the "G" series. You can do the math in between, I'm sure.
Anything "G" and later, of course, remains 19 years old.

Thanks, Tim! I have to ask - do you have 2 bottles each of A through G? :D

The "youngest" I've ever had is the E, of which I have about half a bottle left. I've not done a side by side shootout, but I did not appreciate it as discernably different on casual sipping from the F. Based on these two versions, the VWFRR is in the top 5 whiskies I've ever had. I have an unopened bottle of G.

Do you find much variation from year to year?

I recently picked up a bottle of the "B" series but haven't opened it yet.
