Bacardi History

1892 - Facundo Bacardi makes his first Rum (Liquor Store Magazine, Feb., 70).

1889 - King Alfonso XIII of Spain is given Ron Bacardi to cure a severe case of the "grippe" (U D Archives, Uncataloged Document).

1919 - Compania Ron Bacardi is incorporated in Cuba (Fortune, Nov., 33).

o - Prohibition in the United States makes Havana, Cuba into a popular drinking refuge for Americans, who develop a taste for dacquiris made with rum (Fortune, Nov., 33).

1922 - Henri (Don Enrique) Schueg (Facundo Bacardi's son-in-law) becomes President of Bacardi (Fortune, Nov., 33).

1936 - Bacardi Corporation is established (1966 Red Book, p.217).

1938 - Schenley becomes sole distributor of Bacardi in the United States (U D Archives, 991.m.142).

1943 - Schenley and Bacardi end their agreement (1945 Schenley Annual Report).

o - December- Incorporated in Deleware as the Bacardi Corporation of America (1966 Red Book, p.217).

1958 - Adopted officially the name Bacardi Corporation (1966 Red Book, p.217).

1970 - Bacardi has distilleries in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Nassau (Liquor Store Magazine, Feb., 70).

1975 - The Museum of Bacardi Rum attracted over 100,000 visitors (1975 Bacardi Corporation Annual Report, p.6).
