Purchased at:Japan
Purchased for:31
Info on this bottle:9yr rye
Nose:Rye first, then vanilla, oak, leather, soft mint and orange spice

Over 305 min the rye nose dininishes some and the vanilla and soft citrus tones are more prominent, but not dominent
Taste:Big vanilla, then rye, leather and Very faint citrus. As it rolls around in my mouth he rye just abuses everythything else
Finish:Heavy with rye and cloves with a dampened vanilla. Overall very short finish that plays some light oak and leather. Soem mint comes through over the finish and there is a light burn at 15-20 seconds
Overall:I expected more from this finish. It pretty much just finished with rye. Everything else just bounces around the rye and then dies. The cloves would be the dominent second that is trying to get free, but cannot.

Review from TNbourbon (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 225, Created:20050725181057)
Purchased at:Japan (trade with a Japanese friend)
Purchased for:1 bottle of Stagg
Info on this bottle:"Very Olde Original Family Recipe"; Cask Lot No. AJ1
Proof Of this Bottle:90
Nose:A hint of orange/tangerine citrus is forward, matching the tangerine-peel color, but rich, giving a marmalade-treacle sense. Vanilla underneath.
Taste:Light on the tongue, with the citrus first sense quickly giving way to young leather. But the slight bitterness of the leather quickly reverts back to a tangerine-y sweetness. Interesting how quickly the taste sensations progress. The citrus is the main sense but for that brief, tannic middle.
Finish:Not short, but so light it seems almost a trick of memory. Very citric, which seems to be the theme here. Refreshingly cool.
Overall:If you like oranges, orange-peel candy, tangerines, this baby's for you. Citrus is its watchword. If Florida made bourbon, this would be it! It has a lightness of being that nevertheless makes its presence known. Not prototype bourbon, but uniquely memorable. This seems like summer bourbon, so I may have to finish the bottle before November. Not a "Wow!", but a "Hmmm."
